POST-DOCS

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN LIFESPAN DEVELOPMENT

The Laboratory for Adult Development (P.I. Robert J. Waldinger, MD) in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School has an opening for a half-time postdoctoral research fellow. Our longitudinal study has followed two socioeconomically diverse groups of men over
the last 75 years to identify predictors of healthy aging. The postdoctoral fellow will take an active role in our new 2nd generation initiative to study the baby-boomer offspring of the initial participants. In this work we seek to identify the intergenerational biopsychosocial components of healthy aging. This will include taking an active role in overseeing the details of study design, data collection, data analyses, grant submissions, and manuscript preparation. In addition, the fellow will have the unique opportunity to access the 7 decades of available data to conduct independent research related to adult development across the lifespan. These data includes bi-annual questionnaire data and narrative interview data relating to physical and psychological health, relationships, and healthy lifestyle choices. In addition, subjects and their wives more recently (in their 80s and 90s) completed aging assessments including neuropsychological testing, DNA collection from blood draw, neuroimaging procedures, as well as self report questionnaires and interviews. Qualifications include a minimum of doctoral level training in a relevant social science in addition to basic research and statistical skills. Salary is $20,000 plus benefits for one year half-time position (20 hours/week).

Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until the position is filled; start date is July 1, 2014.

To apply, please send a cover letter, a CV, a 2-page statement of research background and interests, 2 article reprints/preprints, and the names and contact information of three references to Laura Distel at Ldistel@partners.org.
